Explain the meaning of reflection and rotational symmetry?
Reflection symmetry
Reflection Symmetry (also called Line Symmetry or Mirror Symmetry) is easy to observe because one half is the reflection of the other half.
The line of symmetry or mirror line can be horizontal, vertical or inclined as seen in the above examples.
The figure is symmetrical about the line of symmetry or mirror line. One half of the figure is symmetrical about mirror line. The other half is the mirror image of the first half as reflected in the mirror line or line of symmetry.
Rotational symmetry
Rotational symmetry is the property a shape has when it looks the same after some rotation by a partial turn. An object's degree of rotational symmetry is the number of distinct orientations in which it looks exactly the same for each rotation
As we rotate this image we find three different positions that each look the same. So it has Rotational Symmetry of Order 3.
