Explain the concept of parallel lines and transversal.

Parallel lines :

In geometry, parallel lines are lines in a plane which do not meet; that is, two straight lines in a plane that do not intersect at any point are said to be parallel.

In the figure, m and n are parallel lines.

Transversal :

In geometry, a transversal is a line that passes through two lines in the same plane at two distinct points. Transversals are important in establishing whether two other lines in a plane are parallel.

The red line t is the transversal. The blue and black lines are parallel, as the interior alternate angles are equal.
