Explain The Reaction Of Non Metals With Oxygen With An Example

The Reaction of non-metals with oxygen results in formation of non-metal oxides. The non-metal and oxygen gas (O2) are the reactants in reaction. The product is a non-metal oxide which is acidic in nature.

For example, carbon and sulfur reacts with oxygen to form non-metal oxide (dioxide).

                         Sulphur (S) + Oxygen (O2)       ----->      Sulphur dioxide (SO2)

This Sulphur dioxide is acidic In nature which can turn blue litmus paper red.
