Explain saprotrophic nutrition.
Saprophytic nutrition- In this, the organisms feed on dead and decaying matter. For Example, bacteria and fungi digest the food externally and then absorb the nutrients.
A saprophyte or saprotroph is an organism that gets its energy from dead and decaying organic matter. This may be decaying pieces of plants or animals. This means that saprophytes are heterotrophs.
They break down the complex organic matter into simpler substances that are absorbed by the plants for various metabolic activities.
For example, include fungi like mushrooms, bacteria like Lactobacillus and yeast.
