Explain pressure exerted by solids.

A solid exerts pressure on a surface due to its weight. A solid resting on a horizontal surface exerts a normal contact force equals to its weight. The pressure is defined as the force acting normally per unit area.

So, the pressure of the solid on the surface depends on the area of contact.
