Explain Panchmarhi Biosphere Reserve.


  • On 3rd March 1999, the Pachmarhi Biosphere Reserve was established in the state of Madhya Pradesh. It covers the districts of Hoshangabad, Betul, and Chhindwara.

  • The three wildlife conservation units fall under the ambit of the Pachmarhi Biosphere Reserve such as the Bori Sanctuary, the Satpura National Park and the Pachmarhi Sanctuary.

  • The Pachmarhi was designated as a Biosphere Reserve on the basis of a recommendation made by the Environmental Planning and Coordination Organization (EPCO).

  • The Pachmarhi Biosphere Reserve is rich in natural resources. It has diverse flora and fauna and a large tribal population. It is topographically and geographically unique.
