Explain HCF and LCM.

Solution:

LCM  is Least Common Multiple.

To find LCM, do the following steps

i) Write multiples of of given numbers

ii) See the multiples which are common

iii) The Least one among the multiples is LCM

Lets see an example,

LCM of 4 and 6

Multiples of 4 - 4 , 8 , 12 , 16 , 20 , 24 , 28 , 32, 36 ...

LCM of  4 and 6 is  12.

HCF is Highest Common Factor.

To find HCF, do the following  steps,

i)  Write all the factors of given numbers

ii) See the factors which are common

iii) Choose the Highest Factor, that is HCF.

Lets see an example,

HCF of 6 and 12

Factors of 6 - 1 , 2 , 3 , 6

Factors of 12 - 1 , 2 , 3 , 4 , 6 , 12
