Explain Algebra.

  • Algebra is a branch of mathematics which deals with symbols and the rules for manipulating those symbols.
  • In elementary algebra, those symbols (today written as Latin and Greek letters)represent variables i.e  quantities without fixed values.
  • The letters x and y represent the areas of the fields.
  • The main purpose of Algebra is to make it easy to state a mathematical relationship and its equation in a form of shorthand
  •  You then substitute values in order to solve the equations for the unknown quantities.
  • For example, 2(5 + 9) is a numeric expression. Algebraic expressions include at least one variable and at least one operation (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division).

For example, 2(x + 9y) is an algebraic expression.
