Solution:

$(6-1 - 8-1)-1 + (2-1-3-1)-1=[6-(1+8+1)]+[2-(1+3+1)]-1$

$=(6-10)+(2-5)-1$

$=-4+(-3)-1$

$=-(4+3+1)$

$=-8$ 

Therefore,

$(6-1 - 8-1)-1 + (2-1-3-1)-1=-8$.
