Draw a line segment $AB$ and bisect it. Bisect one of the equal parts to obtain a line segment of length $\frac{1}{2}(AB)$.

Given:

A line segment $AB$.

To do:

We have to draw a line segment $AB$ and bisect it, bisect one of the equal parts to obtain a line segment of length $\frac{1}{2}(AB)$.

Solution:

Steps of construction:

(i) Draw a line segment $AB$.

(ii) With the help of a ruler and compasses, draw the bisector of $AB$ which bisects $AB$ at $C$.

(iii) Similarly, draw the bisector of $AC$ at $D$.

We get, $AC = \frac{1}{2}(AB)$.
