Divide the following:
$x^3 - 3 x^2 + 5 x - 3$ by $x^2 -2$
Given :
$p(x) =x^3 - 3 x^2 + 5 x - 3$ and $g(x) =x^2 -2$.
To do :
We have to divide the given polynomials.
Solution :
$p(x) \div g(x) =$
$ x^2 -2 )x^3 - 3 x^2 + 5 x - 3 [ x-3$ $ \frac{x^{3}}{x^{2}} =x$
$x^3 -2x$
-----------------
$-3x^2+7x-3$ $\frac{-3x^{2}}{x^{2}} =-3$
$-3x^2 +6$
---------------
$7x-9$
Quotient $= x-3$
Remainder $= 7x-9$
