Discuss the role performed by the forest in regulating the climate of a region.
Forests are a stabilizing force for the climate.
They regulate ecosystems, protect biodiversity, play an integral part in the carbon cycle, support livelihoods, and supply goods and services that can drive sustainable growth.
Forests influence climate change largely by affecting the amount of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. Forests remove carbon from the atmosphere as it is absorbed in wood, leaves, and soil. This carbon remains stored in the forest ecosystem but can be released into the atmosphere when forests are burned.
Forests also bring rainfall to an area. If forests are destroyed, the area receives much lesser rainfall than earlier it used to.
