Difference between displacement reactions and substitution reaction


The difference between displacement and substitution reactions are given below:

The reactions in which one element takes the place of another element in a compound, are known as displacement reactions.  Substitution reaction occurs when hydrogen atoms of a hydrocarbon are substituted by other atoms. It is a characteristic of saturated hydrocarbons (alkanes).

 CuSO4 (aq) + Zn (s)  ZnSO4(aq) + Cu(s) CuSO4 (aq) + Zn (s)  ZnSO4(aq) + Cu(s)
