Describe the various steps involved in the preparation of soil.


Preparation of soil is the loosening of soil which allows the roots to penetrate deep into the soil and breathe easily.

The various steps involved in the preparation of soil are ploughing, levelling, and manuring.

1. Ploughing: The process of loosening of the soil is called tilling or ploughing. The tools used for this purpose are the plough, hoe and cultivator. Ploughing causes nutrients in deep soil come up, aeration of soil, integration of manure, uprooting of weeds, removal of infectious pathogens.

2. Levelling: Levelling is the even distribution of soil after ploughing. For leveling a plank of wood or iron is used. Levelling helps in proper distribution of water and eliminates logging during irrigation.

3. Manuring: Manure is applied after ploughing and levelling. Manuring replenish the soil with nutrients. This helps in proper growth of the crop.
