Define the term 'evolution'. ‘Evolution cannot be equated with progress’. Justify this statement.
Evolution can be defined as the process of gradual changes that taken place in organisms over years under which new species of an organism have developed.
Evolution cannot be equated with progress because the simple organisms are primitive with simple genetic makeup but the functions they perform are very difficult to do by the complex or higher organisms.
For example:
Bacteria is a simple and primitive organism and human is more developed and complex organisms. But, bacteria are omnipresent and perform complex functions such as surviving in extreme conditions and degrade complex substances.
