Define Cytoplasm.


The cytoplasm is a highly viscous (gel-like) fluid that fills up the cells. It is enclosed by the cell membrane, except for the cell nucleus.

Its function is to support and suspend organelles and cellular molecules.

Other functions of the cytoplasm include:

1. Maintain the shape of a cell.

2. Cell movement.

3. Material exchange.
