Define autotrophs.

Autotrophs are the organisms that prepare food by their own through the process of photosynthesis. The mode of nutrition where living organisms prepare their own food to survive is known as autotrophism.\r
\r
During photosynthesis, autotrophs prepare their own food in the presence of sunlight, carbon-dioxide, water, minerals and pigment such as chlorophyll, phycocyanin, phycoerythrin etc.\r
\r
Examples: Plants, blue green algae, few photosynthetic bacteria, etc.\r
\r
As plants are the most common example of autotrophs, the photosynthetic reaction they perform is\r
\r
Carbon Dioxide + Water + Sunlight → Glucose + Oxygen \r
(Carbohydrate)\r
