Convert into centimetres (in decimals):
(a) $ 3 \mathrm{~mm} $
(b) $ 56 \mathrm{~mm} $
(c) $ 8 \mathrm{~cm} 4 \mathrm{~mm} $
Given:
(a) \( 3 \mathrm{~mm} \)
(b) \( 56 \mathrm{~mm} \)
(c) \( 8 \mathrm{~cm} 4 \mathrm{~mm} \)
To do:
We have to convert the given lengths into centimetres.
Solution:
We know that,
$1\ cm=10\ mm$
This implies,
$1\ mm=\frac{1}{10}\ cm=0.1\ cm$
Therefore,
(a) $3\ mm$
$3\ mm = 3\times0.1\ cm = 0.3\ cm$
(b) $56\ mm$
$56\ mm =56\times0.1\ cm = 5.6\ cm$
(c) $8\ cm 4\ mm$
$4\ mm=4\times0.1\ cm = 0.4\ cm$
$8\ cm 4\ mm=(8+0.4)\ cm=8.4\ cm$
