Compare all the proposed models of an atom given in this chapter.
A comparative study between the models of Thomson, Rutherford and Bohr is given below:
Thomson Model | Rutherford Model | Bohr Model |
Sphere of positive charge. | The sphere of positive charge in the center is called nucleus. The mass of an atom resides in the nucleus. | The positive charge in the center is called the nucleus. |
Electrons are present randomly all over the sphere. | Electrons revolve around the nucleus in a well-defined orbits. | Electrons revolve in discrete orbits and do not radiate energy. |
As Positive charge = negative charge, hence, the atom is electrically neutral. | The size of the nucleus is very small as compared to the size of an atom. | The orbits were known as energy shells. They are K,L,M,N or n=1,2.3.4. |
