By whom was the circulation of blood discovered?
(a) Galileo Galilie
(b) William Harvey
(c) Both of these
(d) None of these

Correct Answer(b) William Harvey

Explanation:

William Harvey discovered the circulation of blood.

The human heart is a muscular pumping organ that pumps blood throughout the body. Blood carries carbon dioxide from cells to the lungs for removal and transports oxygen from the lungs to the heart. The heart pumps blood to all the cells of the body. The heart has different chambers such as the right atrium, left atrium, right ventricle, left ventricle. These chambers prevent the mixing of oxygenated blood with carbon dioxide-rich blood.

The left atrium is a thin-walled upper chamber that relaxes and oxygenated blood enters it. Then left atrium contracts and the left ventricle expands thus blood enters it. The left ventricle contracts and the blood is pumped out to all the body cells. Deoxygenated blood from the body enters into the right atrium when it expands.

When the right atrium contacts the right ventricle dilates. The right ventricle pumps blood to the lungs to get reoxygenated. The blood goes through the heart twice during each cycle hence it is called double circulation.
