By selling oranges at the rate of Rs. $6 \frac{3}{4}$ per orange, a man gets Rs.378. How many oranges does he sell?
Given :
Selling price of one orange $= Rs. 6 \frac{3}{4}$
Total money earned by the man $= Rs. 378$
To do :
We have to find the number of oranges sold.
Solution :
Let the number of oranges sold be x.
Selling price of one orange $= Rs. 6 \frac{3}{4} = Rs. \frac{(6\times4+3)}{4} = Rs. \frac{(24+3)}{4} = Rs. \frac{27}{4}$
Selling price of x oranges $= Rs. \frac{27}{4} (x)$
Therefore,
$\frac{27}{4} (x) = 378$
$x = 378 \times \frac{4}{27}$
$x = 14 \times 4$
$x = 56$
The number of oranges sold is 56.
