Between $ 4 \frac{2}{3} $ and $ 3 \frac{2}{3}, $ which is greater and by how much ?
Given:
$4\frac{2}{3} \ =\ \frac{14}{3}$
$3\frac{2}{3} \ =\ \frac{11}{3}$
To find: We have to solve which of the following fractions is greater and by how much.
Solution:
We know that when denominators are same then numbers having greater numerator is greater. So, $ \frac{14}{3}$ is greater.
Now,
$\frac{14}{3} \ -\ \frac{11}{3} \ =\ \frac{3}{3} \ =\ \mathbf{1}$
$ \frac{14}{3}$ is greater than $ \frac{11}{3}$ by 1.
