Between $ 4 \frac{2}{3} $ and $ 3 \frac{2}{3}, $ which is greater and by how much ?

Given:

$4\frac{2}{3} \ =\ \frac{14}{3}$

$3\frac{2}{3} \ =\ \frac{11}{3}$

To find: We have to solve which of the following fractions is greater and by how much.

Solution:

We know that when denominators are same then numbers having greater numerator is greater. So, $ \frac{14}{3}$ is greater.

Now,

$\frac{14}{3} \ -\ \frac{11}{3} \ =\ \frac{3}{3} \ =\ \mathbf{1}$

$ \frac{14}{3}$ is greater than $ \frac{11}{3}$ by 1.
