(a) Why should we conserve biodiversity?
Ans: Biodiversity brings the variety and variability of plant and animal life in the surroundings along with their habitat.
Each and every organism has its own importance in biodiversity.
For example, there are many plants and animals that help us in the form of food. Greater diversity would help in the stability of all forms of life.
(b) Protected forests are also not completely safe for wild animals. Why?
Ans: Protected forests are not completely safe for wildlife because the poachers hunt the wild animals in these protected forests. The poaching takes place in these areas in very large quantities.
(c) Some tribals depend on the jungle. How?
Ans: The forest provides resources to tribals required to sustain life. Forest provides clean water, fruits, vegetables, and hunts for jungle-living animals. Even forests provide the raw materials required to build the house.
(d) What are the causes and consequences of deforestation?
Ans: Causes of deforestation:
1) Expansion: if people want to settle somewhere and no land is found there, they can cut off the trees and settle there.
2) Medicines: Medicinal plants are often cut off to make medicines.
3) Industries: Industries need heavy wood to perform their activities. So they cut the forests for wood.
Consequences of deforestation:
Deforestation leads to climate change, soil erosion, flooding, desertification, loss of biodiversity, food insecurity, increment in the greenhouse gases in the atmosphere, loss, and extinction of species, changes in weather patterns and climate, and an increase in conflict among humans and wildlife.
(e) What is Red Data Book?
Ans: Red Data Book is the data sourcebook that maintains records of all the endangered animals and plants.
(f) What do you understand by the term migration?
Ans: The term migration means the periodic movement of animals from one place to another place. It is done with the purpose of breeding, survival to escape harsh climates, or to fulfill the requirement of food. Migration is most common among birds and fishes.
