(a) An ion is an electrically charged atom (or group of atoms). It is formed by the loss or gain of an electron by an atom.
Example: Na+ is cation and Cl– is an anion.
(b)(i) Positive charge (+) for cations.
(ii) Negative charge (-) for anions.
(c) The cation present in MgCl2 is Magnesium ion, Mg2+.
The anion present in MgCl2 is Chloride ions, 2Cl–.
