(a) The uses of the non-metals are given below:
(i) Hydrogen: Hydrogen is used in the hydrogenation of vegetable oils.
(ii) Carbon: Graphite is used to make electrodes of electrolytic cells and dry cells.
(iii) Nitrogen: Nitrogen is used in the manufacture of ammonia, nitric acid, and fertilizers.
(iv) Sulphur: Sulphur is used to make sulphuric acid.

(b) Mercury: Mercury is used as the liquid in making thermometers.
