(a) Explain why, it is more dangerous to touch the live wire of a mains supply rather than neutral wire.
(b) Why is it safe for birds to sit on naked power lines fixed atop tall electric poles?
(a) It is more dangerous to touch the live wire of a mains supply rather than the neutral wire because the live wire has a high potential of 220V, whereas neutral wire has zero potential as it is grounded at the power station; therefore, it is not dangerous to touch the neutral wire.
(b) Birds only touches the power line and nothing else, and as their body is not connected to the earth, no current flows through their body into the earth. So, due to this absence of path for the current to flow, it is safe for birds to sit on naked power lines fixed atop tall electric poles.
