(a) Design an activity to demonstrate the decomposition reaction of lead nitrate.(b) Draw labelled diagram of the experimental set-up. List two main observations. (c) Write balanced chemical equation for the reaction stating the physical state of the reactant and the products.

(a) Activity to demonstrate the decomposition reaction of lead nitrate $Pb(NO_{3})_{2}$
Take about 2 g of lead nitrate powder in a boiling tube.
Hold the boiling tube with a pair of tongs and heat it over a flame as shown in the given figure.
(b) Given below is a labelled diagram of the experimental set-up.

""

The two main observations are:
  1. The emission of brown fumes of $NO_{2}$ after thermal decomposition of $Pb(NO_{3})_{2}$
  2. The colourless compound $Pb(NO_{3})_{2}$ forms a yellow compound $PbO$ and brown fumes of $NO_{2}$ gas.
(c) The  balanced chemical equation for the reaction is given below:
$2Pb \underset{(s)}{(NO_{3})_{2}}\overset{\Delta }{\rightarrow}\underset{(s)}{2PbO}+\underset{(g)}{4NO_{2}}+\underset{(g)}{O_{2}}$
