(b) With the help of a lens look at the pieces of paper you collected for the above question. Do you see any difference in the material of recycled paper and a new sheet of paper?


(a) Different papers were collected from the following sources: Newspapers, old notebooks, magazines, newsletters, pamphlets, etc.
Pieces of paper obtained from newspapers, notebooks, magazines, etc. can be recycled.
Plastic-coated and shiny papers like magazine covers and notebook covers cannot be recycled easily.

(b) On looking, with the help of a lens, at the pieces of paper collected from the above-mentioned sources the surface of recycled paper is rough whereas the surface of the new sheet of paper is smooth.
