Arun bought a pair of skates at a sale where the discount given was 20%. If the amount he pays is 1,600, find the marked price. Solve it through Equation method.
Given:
Discount % $=20 \%$ Selling price$=Rs.\ 1600$
To do:
We have to find the marked price.
Solution:
Let the marked price of the skates be $x$.
We know that,
Discount$=$Marked price$-$Selling price
$=x-1600$
Discount %$=\frac{Discount}{Marked\ price}\times100$
$=\frac{x-1600}{x}\times100$
$\Rightarrow 20=\frac{x-1600}{x}\times100$
$20\times x=100x-160000$
$160000=100x-20x$
$160000=80x$
$x=\frac{160000}{80}$
$x=2000$
Therefore, marked price of the pair of skates is Rs. 2000.
