An object travels $ 14 \mathrm{m} $ in $ 4 \mathrm{s} $ and then another 16 m in $ 2 \mathrm{s} $. What is the average speed of the object?

Solution:

Distance1 = 14 m; Time1 = 4 s

Distance2 = 16 m; Time2 = 2 s

Total distance travelled = Distance1 + Distance2

                                                = 14 m + 16 m = 30 m

Total time =4 s + 2 s = 6 s

Average speed = Total distance / Total time

 = 30 m / 6 s = 5 m/s

So the average speed of object = 5 m/s
