An object is placed at the following distances from a concave mirror of focal length 15 cm, turn by turn:(a) 35 cm (b) 30 cm (c) 20 cm (d) 10 cmWhich position of the object will produce:(i) a magnified real image?(ii) a magnified virtual image?(iii) a diminished real image?(iv) an image of same size as the object?
Here, it is given that-
Focal length, $f=15cm$. Then,
Radius of curvature, $R\ or\ 2F=2\times {focal\ length}=2\times {15}=30cm$
(i) At position (c) 20 cm from the concave mirror, the image formed will be magnified and real, because a real and magnified image is formed by the concave mirror when an object is placed between the focus, $F$, and the centre of curvature, $2F$.
(ii) At position (d) 10 cm from the concave mirror, the image formed will be magnified and virtual, because a virtual and magnified image is formed by the concave mirror when an object is placed between within the focus, or between the focus, $F$, and the pole, $P$.
(iii) At position (a) 35 cm from the concave mirror, the image formed will be diminished and real, because a diminished and real image is formed by the concave mirror when an object is placed beyond the centre of curvature, $2F$.
(iv) At position (b) 30 cm from the concave mirror, the image formed will be of the same size as the object, because an image of the same size as the object is formed by the concave mirror when the object is placed at the centre of curvature, $2F$.
