An amount was divided into two proportions in the ratio 5: 11. If the difference in the amount was rupees 1800, what was the total amount and what were the proportions ?

Given :

The ratio of proportions of amount $= 5 : 11$.

Difference between the proportions $= 1800$

To find :

We have to find the total amount and the proportions.

Solution :

The amount is divided in the ratio of 5 : 11

Let one part of amount be '5 x' and another part be '11 x'.

Difference between the amount,

$11 x - 5 x = 1800 $

$6 x = 1800$

$x = \frac{1800}{6}$

$x = 300$

So, the proportions are,

$5 x = 5 (300) = 1500 $

$11 x = 11 (300) = 3300$

Total amount $= 1500 + 3300 = 4800$

Therefore, The proportions of amount are 1500 and 3300.

Total amount is 4800.
