Add the following:$3\frac{1}{5} + 2\frac{1}{3}$

Given :

The given expression is $3\frac{1}{5} +2\frac{1}{3}$.

To do :

We have to add the given expressions.

Solution :

To add mixed fractions, we have to first convert them to improper fractions.

$3\frac{1}{5} +2\frac{1}{3} =\frac{3\times 5+1}{5} +\frac{2\times 3+1}{3}$

$=\frac{15+1}{5} +\frac{6+1}{3}$

$=\frac{16}{5} +\frac{7}{3}$

LCM of 3 and 5 is $3\times 5 = 15$.

$\frac{16}{5} +\frac{7}{3} =\frac{16\times 3+7\times 5}{15}$

$=\frac{48+35}{15}$

$=\frac{83}{15}$

Therefore, the sum of $3\frac{1}{5} +2\frac{1}{3}$ is $\frac{83}{15}$.
