A tree of height 4.8 m is broken into three pieces in the ratio 3 : 4 : 5. Find the length of each piece.

Given:

Total height of the tree = 4.8 m and tree is broken into three pieces in the ratio 3 : 4 : 5.

To find:

We have to find the value of the Length of each piece.

Solution

Let the common factor be = a

So,

1st piece = 3a

2nd piece = 4a

3rd piece = 5a

Therefore, according to the problem:

3a $+$ 4a $+$ 5a = 4.8 m

12a = 4.8 m

a = $\frac{4.8}{12}$ m

a = 0.4 m

Now,

1st piece = 3a = 3 $\times$ 0.4 = 1.2 m

2nd piece = 4a = 4 $\times$ 0.4 = 1.6 m

3rd piece = 5a = 5 $\times$ 0.4 = 2.0 m
