Given: A total of RS. 80,000 is to be distributed among 200 persons as prizes. A prize is either of rs 500 or rs100.
To find: We have to find the number of each prizes.
Solution:
Number of persons receiving prize = 200
Let number of person getting ₹ 500 prize = a
So, number of person getting ₹ 100 prize = 200 - a
Now,
500 x (number of person getting ₹ 500) + 100 (number of person getting ₹ 100) = 80000
500 x (a) + 100 (200 - a) = 80000
500a + 20000 - 100a = 80000
500a - 100a = 80000 - 20000
400a = 60000
a = 60000/400
a = 150
Therefore,
Number of person getting ₹ 500 prize = a = 150
Number of person getting ₹ 100 prize = 200 - a = 200 - 150 = 50
