We have to find the number of residents and the amount that each of them contributed.

Solution:

Let the number of members be $x$.

This implies,

The amount collected by each member $=x$ paise

Therefore,

$x\times x=9216$            ($92.16\times100=9216$)

$x^{2}=9216$

$x=\sqrt{9216}$      (Prime factorisation of 9216 is $2 \times 2 \times 2 \times 2 \times 2 \times3\times2 \times 2 \times 2 \times 2 \times 2 \times3$)

$=2 \times 2 \times 2 \times 2 \times 2 \times3$

$=96$

Therefore, the number of members is 96 and the amount each member collected is 96 paise.
