A scooterist covers a distance of 3 kilometres in 5 minutes. Calculate his speed in:(a) centimetres per second (cm/s)(b) metres per second (m/s) (c) kilometres per hour (km/h)
As given, the distance covered by the scooterist $s=3\ km$
Time taken $t=5\ minute$
Therefore, speed $=\frac{distance}{time}=\frac{3\ km}{5\ minute}$
So, the speed:
$(a)$. In centimetres per second $(cm/s)$
$=\frac{3\times1000\times100\ cm}{5\times60\ seconds}$
$=1000\ cm/s$
$(b)$. Speed of the scooter in metres per second $( m/s)$:
$=\frac{3\ km}{5\ minute}$
$=\frac{3\times1000\ m}{5\times60\ s}$
$=10\ m/s$
$(c)$ Speed of the scooterist in kilometers per hour $(km/h)$:
$=\frac{3\ km}{\frac{5}{60}\ h}$
$=\frac{3\times60}{5}\ km/h$
$=36\ km/h$
