A rectangular plot of land is $ 300 \mathrm{~m} $ long and $ 250 \mathrm{~m} $ broad. It has two roads, each 3 metres wide running midway within it one parallel to the length and the other parallel to the breadth. Find the area of the roads. Also, calculate the cost of constructing the roads at Rs. 50 per square metre.

Given:

A rectangular plot of land is \( 300 \mathrm{~m} \) long and \( 250 \mathrm{~m} \) broad. It has two roads, each 3 metres wide running midway within it one parallel to the length and the other parallel to the breadth.

To do:

We have to find the area of the roads and the cost of constructing the roads at Rs. 50 per square metre.

Solution:

Area of the road along the length $= 3 \times 300 = 900\ m^2$

Area of the road along the breadth $= 3 \times 250 = 750\ m^2$

Area of the common part(intersection part of roads) $= 3\times3 = 9\ m^2$

Therefore,

The total area of the roads $= 900 + 750 - 9 =1641\ m^2$

Cost of constructing the roads $= Rs.\ 50 \times 1641$

$= Rs.\ 82050$
