A rectangular floor is 18 metre long and 12 metre broad. The floor has to be covered with smaller rectangular tiles each of which is 45 cm long and 30 cm broad. Find the number of tiles required to cover the floor.

A rectangular floor is 18 metre long and 12 metre broad.
The floor has to be covered with smaller rectangular tiles each of which is 45 cm long and 30 cm broad.
To do:
We have to find the number of tiles required to cover the floor.
Solution:
Length of rectangular floor = 18 m
1 m = 100 cm ; 18 m = $18\times100$ cm = 1800 cm
Breadth of rectangular floor = 12 m
1 m = 100 cm ; 12 m = $12\times100$ cm = 1200 cm
Area of rectangle = Length $\times$ breadth
Area of rectangular floor = 1800 $\times$ 1200
Area of rectangular floor = 2160000 sq.cm.
Length of rectangular tiles = 45 cm
Breadth of rectangular tiles = 30 cm
Area of rectangular tiles = 45 $\times$ 30 sq.cm.
Area of rectangular tiles = 1350 sq cm
Number of tiles required = Area of rectangular floor $\div$ Area of rectangular tiles
Number of tiles required = $\frac{2160000}{1350}=1600$.
Therefore, the number of tiles required is 1600.
