A Rectangular courtyard has to be paved with marble. The length of the courtyard is 24 metre and its width is 18 metre. If the area of each square shaped marble slab is 900 centimeter square, how many marble slabs will be required to pave the courtyard?
Given:
The length of the courtyard is 24 metre and its width is 18 metre.
The area of each square shaped marble slab is 900 centimeter square.
To do:
We have to find the number of marbles required to pave the courtyard.
Solution:
Length of rectangle = 24 m
1 m = 100 cm ; 24 m = $24\times100$ cm = 2400 cm
Width of rectangle = 18 m
1 m = 100 cm ; 18 m = $18\times100$ cm = 1800 cm
Area of rectangle = 2400 $\times$ 1800
Area of rectangle = 4320000 sq cm
Area of marble to be paved = 900 sq cm
Number of marbles required = Area of rectangle $\div$ Area of marble to be paved
Number of marbles required = $\frac{4320000}{900}$
= $\frac{43200}{9} = 4800$
Therefore,
The number of marbles required is 4800.
