(b) What is the difference between a reflex action and walking?
(c) How do we detect the smell of an incense stick(agarbatti)?
(a) The three types of nerves which constitute the peripheral nervous system are: 1. Spinal nerves, 2. Cranial nerves, 3. Visceral nerves. (b) The difference between a reflex action and walking are:
Reflex action | Walking |
1. It is an involuntary action that is a rapid and automatic response to stimuli. | 1. It is a voluntary action which is controlled by the action of the brain. |
2. It involves the spinal cord. | 2. CNS (central nervous system) takes part in this action. |
(c) When an incense stick (agarbatti) burns, it produces fumes having a characteristic pleasant smell which is detected by the olfactory receptors present inside our nose.
Due to this smell, the receptors set off chemical reactions which generate electrical impulses, which is carried out by the sensory neurons to the sensory area of the forebrain called the cerebrum. Then the brain interprets this information as the smell of incense sticks where it has been already stored.
