(a) List in tabular form two differences between binary fission and multiple fission.(b) What happens when a mature Spirogyra filament attains considerable length.

(a) The differences between binary fission and multiple fission are:

Binary FissionMultiple Fission

In Binary fission, the parent cell gets split into two halves, each half forms identical daughter cells of the same size. It takes place in unicellular organisms.

Multiple fission is a process in which the nucleus of a parent cell divides repeatedly, producing a large number of nuclei and numerous, similar-sized, and identical daughter cells.

Amoeba and Leishmania reproduce by binary fission.
Plasmodium reproduces by multiple fission.

 (b)  When a mature Spirogyra filament attains considerable length, it breaks up into smaller fragments or pieces and each fragment grows into a new individual.
