(a) List in tabular form two differences between binary fission and multiple fission.(b) What happens when a mature Spirogyra filament attains considerable length.
(a) The differences between binary fission and multiple fission are:
Binary Fission | Multiple Fission |
In Binary fission, the parent cell gets split into two halves, each half forms identical daughter cells of the same size. It takes place in unicellular organisms. | Multiple fission is a process in which the nucleus of a parent cell divides repeatedly, producing a large number of nuclei and numerous, similar-sized, and identical daughter cells. |
Amoeba and Leishmania reproduce by binary fission. | Plasmodium reproduces by multiple fission. |
(b) When a mature Spirogyra filament attains considerable length, it breaks up into smaller fragments or pieces and each fragment grows into a new individual.
