A lending library has a fixed charges for the first three days and an additional charge for each day thereafter. Aarushi paid Rs. 27 for a book kept for seven days. If fixed charges are Rs. x and per day charges are Rs. y. Write the linear equation representing the above information.
Given:
A lending library has fixed charges for the first three days and an additional charge for each day thereafter.
Aarushi paid Rs. 27 for a book kept for seven days.
The fixed charges are $Rs.\ x$ and per day charges are $Rs.\ y$.
To do:
We have to write the linear equation representing the above information.
Solution:
The fixed charges for first three days $= Rs.\ x$
Additional charges for each day thereafter $= Rs.\ y$
Number of days the book was kept by Aarushi $= 7$ days
Amount paid $= Rs.\ 27$
Therefore,
$x + (7-3) \times y = 27$
$x + 4y = 27$
Hence the linear equation representing the given information is $x+4y=27$.
