A five-storey building has two floors above the ground. Total height of the building from the basement is 30 m and each floor is the same height. One person is standing on the lowest basement and another is standing at the roof of the top floor. Find at what distance they are standing from the ground?

Given:

Total height of the building from the basement = 30 m

Each floor is the same height.

One person is standing on the lowest basement and another is standing on the roof of the top floor.

To find: Here we have to find the distance of the persons from ground.

Solution:

No. of floors above ground = 2

Therefore,

No. of floors below ground = 5 $-$ 2 = 3

The total height of building = 30 m

Given that each floor is of the same height:

Let $x$ be the height of 1 floor

So, the height of 5 floors = $5x$

Now,

$5x\ =$  30 m

$x\ =$  6 m

One person is standing on the lowest:

So, Distance between the ground and the lowest floor = $6\ \times\ 3$ = 18 m

Another is standing at the top floor:

So, Distance between the ground and the top floor =  $6\ \times\ 2$ = 12 m
