A farmer has a field in the shape of an isosceles trapezium whose perimeter is $215\ m$. One of its non-parallel sides is $50\ m$. What is the sum of its parallel sides?

Given: A farmer has a field in the shape of an isosceles trapezium whose perimeter is $215\ m$. One of its non-parallel sides is $50\ m$.

To do:  To find the sum of its parallel sides.

Solution:

As given, perimeter of field in the shape of isosceles Trapezium$=215\ m$

Length of one of its non-parallel side$=50\ m$

Length of $2nd$ non-parallel side$=50\ m$       [By property of Isosceles Trapezium]

$(Sum\ of\ non-parallel\ sides)+(sum\ of\ parallel\ sides)=215$

$\Rightarrow ( 50 + 50)+( sum\ of\ parallel\ sides)=215$

$\Rightarrow$ Sum of parallel sides $=215-100=115\ m$

Thus, the sum of its parallel sides is $115\ m$.
