Given:

A drum of kerosene oil is $\frac{3}{4}$ full. When 15 litres of oil is drawn from it, it is $\frac{7}{12}$  full

To do: Find the capacity of the drum

Solution:

Let the total capacity be x

$3\frac{x}{4}$-15=7$\frac{x}{12}$

$\frac{3x-60}{4}=7\frac{x}{12}$

.

$3x-60(12)=7x \times 4$

$36x-720 =28x$

$36x-28=720$

$8x=720$

$x=90$

Therefore the total capacity of the drum is 90L
