A die is thrown. Find the probability of getting 2 or 4.

Given:

A die is thrown.

To do:

We have to find the probability of getting 2 or 4.

Solution:

When a die is thrown, the total possible outcomes are 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6.

This implies,

The total number of possible outcomes $n=6$.

Total number of favourable outcomes $=1+1=2$.

We know that,

Probability of an event $=\frac{Number\ of\ favourable\ outcomes}{Total\ number\ of\ possible\ outcomes}$

Therefore,

Probability of getting 2 or 4 $=\frac{2}{6}$

$=\frac{1}{3}$

The probability of getting 2 or 4 is $\frac{1}{3}$.
