A dealer sold 75 pencils everyday for 16 days and 90 pencils everyday for 14 days. He still has 2 dozen pencils left. How many pencils did he have to start with?

Given: A dealer sold 75 pencils everyday for 16 days and 90 pencils everyday for 14 days. He still has 2 dozen pencils left.

To find: Here we have to find the number of pencils dealer had at the start.

Solution:

A dealer sold 75 pencils everyday for 16 days:

Total number of pencils sold = 75 $\times$ 16

Total number of pencils sold = 1200

A dealer sold 90 pencils everyday for 14 days:

Total number of pencils sold = 90 $\times$ 14

Total number of pencils sold = 1260

Also,

Number of pencil left = 2 dozen

We know, 1 dozen = 12

Number of pencil left = 2 $\times$ 12

Number of pencil left = 24

Now,

Total pencils dealer had at the start = Total pencils sold $+$ Number of pencil left

Total pencils dealer had at the start = 1200 $+$ 1260 $+$ 24

Total pencils dealer had at the start = 2484

So, dealer had 2484 pencils at the start.
