A carpenter allows a 15% discount on the goods sold by him.Find the marked price of a chair which is sold by him for Rs 680.
Given: A carpenter allows a 15% discount on the goods sold by him.
To find: We have to find the marked price of a chair which is sold by him for Rs 680 .
Solution
The sale price SP of the chair = Rs 680
A discount of 15% is offered on the Marked price MP of the chair.
Using formula $MP \times(\frac{100 - Discount%}{100}) = SP$
$MP \times(\frac{100 - 15}{100}) = 680$
$MP \times \frac{85}{100} = 680$
$MP = 680 \times \frac{100}{85} = Rs 800$
So the required Marked price of the chair is Rs 800
