A car runs 9 kilometres using 1-litre petrol? How much distance will it cover in 3 whole $\frac{2}{3}$ litres of petrol?

Given:

A car runs 9 kilometres using 1-litre petrol.

To do:

We have to find the distance it will cover in 3 whole $\frac{2}{ 3}$ litre of petrol.

Solution:

The number of kilometres run by car using 1 litre of petrol $=9$ km.

The number of kilometres run by car using $3\frac{2}{3}$ litres of petrol.

$=9\times3\frac{2}{3}$ km

$=9\times(\frac{3\times3+2}{3})$ km

$=9\times\frac{11}{3}$ km

$=3\times11$ km

$=33$ km.

The distance travelled by the car using $3\frac{2}{3}$ L of petrol is 33 km.
